Part 10 - Flood
Transcript
Okay friends, my hope today is just to share a little something from a parable of Jesus this morning, that's been going around my head since I woke up, and it seems at the moment like we're very much in the quiet, or the calm, before the storm.
So I know friends and the health service services saying that that it feels like we're in the calm before the storm. So I just want to ask really whether you have in place the right thing to cope with the storm.
In Luke chapter 6, verse 46 and following there's the story of the wise and foolish builder, and we mustn't reduce that to a story just for children, it's a story for situations like this. You probably know it well, I won't read it, but I'll just explain it. There's the man that builds his house on a good foundation, and when the floods come it stands; and there's the man who builds his house without a foundation, we often say on the sand and rather than the rock; and it doesn't stand, his house doesn't stand when the flood comes.
And really what I want to ask is: do you have the right foundation in place, do you have the foundation of Christ and His Word in place, because that's the point of the story, before the flood comes. And that holds for any situation in life really, not just this current season that we're in. We know horrendous things come along in life and it's at that point that the foundation we have, or don't have, is exposed and Christ tells this story because he wants us to have this foundation. "Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like, they are like the person with the strong foundation", Christ says.
So we're praying for our country at the moment, we're praying for workers in the health service and things, but friends whether you're religious or not, I guess that there could be someone listening in who's just happened to click on this, wouldn't say they're religious, wouldn't say they're a follower of the Lord Jesus. Please just make sure you've got the right foundation in place for life.
