Part 35 - Live by God’s Word, not your feelings
During these times it is tempting to start drawing conclusions about the situation.
Some might say this is the beginning of the end of the world.
To some, this is God’s punishment for the way we have lived our lives and teaching us to slow down.
To others this is a conspiracy, someone trying to take over the world, kind of thing.
Yet to others, it is a worrying, anxious and perhaps angry time because they cannot control the situation – their lives have been thrown into disarray and are having to live differently.
Either way, most of us will be trying to come up with a reason for why the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the world.
As humans we strive all day to take control of our lives, the job we work, the friends we have, the entertainment we enjoy, everything about our lives seems to be under our control. And when we are all hit by a major catastrophe, like this pandemic, throwing us all into turmoil, we start looking in all the wrong places for the reasons why and how to get out it.
But in Matthew 6:25-34, we are reminded that God is in complete control of everything in the universe, from the provision of food for the birds to the colourful array of flowers and grass that ‘is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire’.
But as Christians living today, we must…
“... seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (v33-34)
We need to trust God and live by His Word rather than trying to take matters into our own hands and live by our feelings, because…
“…can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (v27)
